1-inch Automatic Water Shutoff Valve Comparison

1-inch automatic water shutoff valves
Stop a leak before it becomes a claim. We recommend StreamLabs Control.

Three serious 1-inch shutoff valves, one honest comparison. StreamLabs and FloLogic are both insurance-grade choices; StreamLabs leads for most homes because it combines Chubb-backed risk engineering, ultrasonic detection and no subscription at a stronger ownership cost.

StreamLabs Control smart automatic water shutoff valve on a black background
Chubb company Built with insurer risk-engineering focus
No subscription Alerts and controls included
Recommended insurance-grade value StreamLabs Control — $999 Chubb-owned company, ultrasonic flow, no subscription, strong support story.
Premium full-port insurance-grade FloLogic — $2,090 True full-port 1" body, EverWatch sensitivity from 0.5 oz/min, 5-yr warranty.
Why we don't lead with it Flo by Moen — from $649.99 MSRP Lower entry price, but mixed reviews, paid plan for full warranty, battery add-on.

Three valves, one straight answer.

We carry the two we'd install in our own homes. Here's the short version, then the long one below.

Why StreamLabs Control is our default recommendation

Feature → Advantage → Benefit
Feature

Ultrasonic flow metering

StreamLabs reads water flow with ultrasonic sensors instead of a turbine in the water path.

Advantage

Nothing to wear out in the line

No spinning parts inside the pipe means no flow-sensor cleaning routine and fewer reasons for accuracy drift over time.

Benefit

Set-and-forget protection

Your shutoff stays calibrated and accurate without you babysitting it — exactly what a leak-prevention device should do.

Feature

0.1 GPM detection + Drip Detect

Catches very low-flow leaks and runs scheduled daily, weekly and monthly drip tests on your plumbing.

Advantage

Slow leaks don't hide

The leaks that destroy walls and floors are usually the slow ones — a pinhole at the wax ring, a sweating fitting in the wall. Drip Detect surfaces them on a schedule.

Benefit

Fewer surprise repair bills

You hear about a problem in the app, not from a stain on the ceiling.

Feature

No subscription, full features in the app

Per the Tradewinds product page, StreamLabs Control has no subscription — the alerts and remote controls are included.

Advantage

Predictable cost of ownership

No "your warranty just lapsed" or "this feature now requires a plan" surprise a year in.

Benefit

The price you pay is the price you pay

Buy the valve, install it, get the protection. That's the whole deal.

When FloLogic is the right call

Premium · insurance-grade
Feature

True full-port valve body - 1", 1.5" & 2"

FloLogic uses a full-port design so the valve doesn't bottleneck whole-home flow.

Advantage

No noticeable pressure drop

Showers, irrigation manifolds and tankless heaters keep getting the flow they were sized for.

Benefit

Whole-home protection without trade-offs

The valve disappears into the system — you protect the home without giving up performance.

Feature

EverWatch detection from 0.5 oz/min

Continuous monitoring with a sensitivity threshold starting at half an ounce per minute, per the Tradewinds listing.

Advantage

Catches the smallest leaks worth catching

Half an ounce per minute is the territory of a slow fitting weep — exactly what causes long-term damage.

Benefit

Genuine insurance-grade protection

Why carriers like Chubb, PURE and State Farm contexts mention or prefer FloLogic for high-value homes.

Feature

Battery backup + 5-year warranty

Backup power is included; warranty is 5 years per the Tradewinds product page.

Advantage

Protection during a storm, not just sunny days

Power outages are exactly when frozen pipes and sump-related failures spike — and exactly when a battery matters.

Benefit

Long-term peace of mind

One install, professional commissioning, half a decade of covered protection.

Before choosing the lowest upfront price

We don't sell Flo by Moen at Tradewinds Water. It's a recognizable brand and the upfront price looks attractive, but the long-term picture changes once you add in support, warranty, accessories and review patterns. Here's what we'd want a customer to know before clicking buy somewhere else.

  • The "headline" price isn't the all-in price. Moen lists the 900-006 1" valve at $649.99, with discount retailers showing roughly $520–$550 on some days. Battery backup is sold separately at about $330 at the Moen shop, and the enhanced 5-year warranty requires the paid FloProtect plan — not the base unit.
  • The flow sensor needs care. Moen's own support docs describe periodic flow-sensor maintenance for accurate readings — a moving sensor in the water path is more than a sealed device.
  • Galvanized pipe may stop the install before it starts. Moen says Flo should not be installed when galvanized plumbing is upstream, at the connection point, or within 4–6 feet unless piping is replaced or protective filtration is added. Rust flakes and debris can interfere with the device's sensors, so older homes should check pipe material before buying.
  • Review-risk signal is real. Across Lowe's, Home Depot, Reddit's r/Plumbing, the Mother Modern master-plumber review and Digitized House, some customers report app/connectivity complaints, false-shutoff events, and warranty/replacement friction. Other customers are happy — this is a risk signal, not a guarantee of failure. It's worth checking the patterns before choosing.
  • Discount retailers don't replace warranty support. Discount retailers and wholesale marketplaces may show lower upfront prices, but check warranty path, included accessories and review patterns before choosing. A "good deal" on day one can become a service headache on day 400.
  • That's why we curate. We chose StreamLabs and FloLogic because they hold up to the same scrutiny — sensor design, warranty path, support quality and review patterns. We'd rather recommend two products we trust than carry a third that splits our service hours.
